Why Should You Put LED Lights On The Wall Or Floor?

Aids In Pathway Lighting

Led strip lighting on the floor is probably the finest option for illuminating paths and walkways in your home. Placing LED strip lights on the floor has the added benefit of illuminating pathways. This allows you to receive enough light to see where you’re going without sacrificing too much light for the region around you.

In addition to lighting walkways, this can also be utilized to draw attention to specific parts of your property. This is a good example of anything you want to draw attention to in your home. Front doors, garage doors, and even the approach to your front door can be illuminated.

Reduces Glare

In addition to reducing glare from other lighting fixtures, installing led strip lights on the floor has many other advantages. In addition, dimming the lights means that the glare that was previously shining directly on you will now be reflected off the floor.

Anyone with strong lights in their living room or kitchen that shines directly on them will greatly benefit from this. If you have additional lighting fixtures that cause a lot of glare, this could be a problem. If your lights are over the area where you want to walk, this can be a real problem.

Having a light over your garage doors, for example, can make it easier for people to access your home. When you’re trying to go in and out of your house at night, this can create challenging lighting circumstances. To prevent the problem of glare, you can utilize led strip lighting on the floor to illuminate these garage doors, rather than lighting them straight from the sky.

Can Enlarge A Home

The usage of led strip lights on the floor can help make a room appear larger. The way our eyes perceive light has everything to do with why this helps to make your property appear larger. The brightest place in a room might make a room appear larger if it is located at eye level or lower.

Recessed lighting is so popular in homes has a lot to do with the fact that it puts light directly in line with your eyes. Led floor strip lighting is an excellent alternative if your Ceiling isn’t bright enough to compensate for the absence of light at eye level.

Adds Accent Lighting

There are several ways to incorporate floor-mounted LED strip lights into your home’s lighting design. As a result, they are a good choice because they produce enough light to draw attention to particular aspects of your home while not obscuring the rest.

The front door, fish tanks, artwork, and more can benefit from this treatment. Led strip lighting on the floor also allows direct the light in a specific direction. As a result, you can utilize them to draw attention to specific aspects of your home without detracting from the rest of the property.

An attractive piece of wall art or even a fish tank might serve as a focal point in your living area. This feature may need to take precedence over others in the room if you want it to be more visible to guests. LED strip lighting on the floor allows you to accomplish this without sacrificing light in other locations.

Why Should You Not Put LED Lights On The Floor Or Wall?

Following can be reasons and I have shared an experimental research below to prove the argument.

Not Ideal For High Traffic Areas Near The Light

In situations where there is a lot of activity, led strip lighting on the floor may not be the best option. Floor-mounted LED strip lighting may not be the best option in rooms with high foot or paw traffic. To keep them in place, they will have to move constantly.

Your home’s appearance may be altered as a result since specific places may appear darker or less light due to your pet walking through the room. As a result, ceiling-led strip lighting may be a better alternative if you have pets or high foot traffic in your home.

May Cost More

LED strip lighting on the floor has additional drawbacks, including the cost. Due to the need for a separate controller and power supply, this is not a good option for those looking to save money. When utilizing led strip lighting on the ceiling, you don’t need a separate light switch to control them. As a result, you can persist in using the existing switches to turn on and off your lights.

Advantages Of LED Lights On Ceiling

The Most Efficient Method Of Illuminating A Room

LED strip lights on the Ceiling are a terrific alternative if you want to light up a room efficiently. A more efficient way to illuminate a room is to hang your led strip lights from the Ceiling instead of relying on additional light bulbs or fixtures. For this reason, it is more efficient to use one light fixture to illuminate a considerably broader area.

The lighting may be set up to have enough light to read comfortably while also adding the proper ambiance to your space. Because it illuminates the ceilings rather than the walls or floors, it’s perfect for illuminating your home’s darker corners.

Wet Areas

Due to the lack of water contact, led strip lighting on the Ceiling is an excellent choice for wet rooms such as the bathroom or kitchen. This means you will have a lower risk of damaging your lights throughout the installation process.

In addition, it’s crucial to note that some led strip lights are waterproof or splashproof, so mounting them on the floor won’t be a problem if this is something you’d prefer. Also, keep in mind that some led strip lights are specifically designed for use on the Ceiling or floor, so keep this in mind when purchasing and installing your led strip lighting.

Easy Cable Hide For A Cleaner Look

LED strip lights on the Ceiling allow you to hide cords for a cleaner and more efficient look, which is one of the advantages. Many people don’t enjoy having visible wires and cords in their homes. So, they will employ led strips to light up their dwellings.

However, because the lights are typically installed on the floor, many individuals fail to consider the hassle of dealing with the associated cords and wiring. As a result, installing ceiling-mounted LED strip lights makes it easier to conceal cords and achieve a cleaner aesthetic. Running cables up the baseboards rather than on the floor makes them easier to conceal. Another benefit is that it will look cleaner and less cluttered.

Control Might Be Easier

Using your existing light switch to control your LED strip ceiling lights is also possible. This eliminates the requirement for a separate controller to be used with them. Thanks to this feature, you’ll also be able to control all of your home’s lighting using the same switches.

In other words, you can switch them on and off in the same way as your overhead lights and other lighting fixtures. Like all of your other lights, these can be dimmed. Using switches to control led strip lights is both convenient and easy. That’s why individuals who don’t want to spend a lot of money on additional equipment might consider this alternative.

Useful For Outdoors Too

Additionally, led strip lights on the ceiling can be used outside. This is because certain led strip lights are weatherproof, while others aren’t because of that.

You can, however, place them outside even if they are not weatherproof because the light will be in the Ceiling, where rain and snow cannot get to them. Thanks to this fact, you can effortlessly install led strip lights in your outside space, such as a deck or patio.

Disadvantages Of LED Lights On Ceiling

Overhead Led Lights Can Glare

LED strip ceiling lights have some drawbacks, including the potential for glare. This is because a room with many overheads led lights will have a lot of light. There is a risk that persons sleeping or reading may feel as though there is too much light, preventing them from getting a good night’s sleep or reading. Because of this, you should think about the type of LED strip lights you intend to use and whether or not they would produce excessive glare.

May Not Properly Light Pathways

Additionally, led strip ceiling lights may not be able to illuminate walkways properly. This means that if you want to use them outside or in a hallway, you may not be able to see well enough.

This is because LED strip lights are primarily intended for highlighting. Because of this, they are using LED strip lights as a primary source of illumination is not recommended. As a result, before installing LED strip lights in certain locations, think about how they will illuminate your home and whether they are the right choice. Lets take a look at how can we install the LEDs.

How to Install LED Lights?

LED lights are an energy-efficient and long-lasting solution for your lighting needs. They come in various forms, including bulbs, strips, and panels, each suitable for different applications. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install LED lights in your home or office.

Step 1: Choose the Right LED Lights

First, determine the type of LED lights you need. This will depend on where you plan to install them and the lighting effect you want to achieve. For instance, LED strips are great for accent lighting and can be used under cabinets or behind TVs, while LED bulbs or panels are suitable for general room lighting.

Step 2: Gather Your Tools

The tools you’ll need will depend on the type of LED lights you’re installing. Generally, you’ll need a ladder, screwdriver, wire strippers, and electrical tape. If you’re installing LED strips, you might also need a pair of scissors to cut the strip to the desired length.

Step 3: Prepare the Installation Area

Ensure the area where you’ll install the lights is clean and dry. If you’re replacing old lights with LEDs, turn off the power and carefully remove the old fixtures.

Step 4: Install the LED Lights

For LED bulbs, simply screw them into the existing light socket. For LED panels, secure them to the ceiling or wall using screws, then connect the wires according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For LED strips, peel off the adhesive backing and stick the strip to the desired location. Cut off any excess strip at the marked cutting points.

Step 5: Connect to Power

Once the LED lights are installed, it’s time to connect them to power. For LED bulbs and panels, this simply means turning the power back on. For LED strips, you’ll need to connect the strip to a power supply unit, then plug this into a power outlet.

Step 6: Test Your LED Lights

Finally, turn on the lights to make sure they’re working correctly. If not, double-check your connections and make sure the power supply is adequate.

Remember, safety should be your top priority when installing LED lights. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, consider hiring a professional electrician.

By following these steps, you can enjoy the benefits of LED lighting in your space. Whether you’re aiming for a cozy, warm glow or a bright, cool light, LED lights offer a versatile and energy-efficient solution.

A Study: Role of nocturnal light intensity on adaptation to three consecutive night shifts: a counterbalanced crossover study

In 2020, a research study was conducted by Erlend Sunde, J. Mrdalj, Torhild T Pedersen, E. Thun, B. Bjorvatn, J. Grønli, A. Harris, S. Waage, and S. Pallesen.

The study aimed to explore the impact of a standard ceiling-mounted LED-based bright light intervention on alertness and neurobehavioral performance during three consecutive simulated night shifts. It also examined the timing of the circadian rhythm post-shifts.

The study involved 27 participants (20 females, average age 21.4±2.1 years). The participants worked three consecutive night shifts (23:00–07:00) under two different light conditions: a full-spectrum (4000 K) bright light (900 lx) and a standard light (90 lx). The conditions were applied in a counterbalanced crossover design, with a 4-week gap in between.

The researchers assessed subjective alertness (using the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale) and neurobehavioral performance (using the Psychomotor Vigilance Task and Digit Symbol Substitution Test) five times during each shift.

They also assessed the timing of the salivary dim-light melatonin onset (DLMO) before and after the shifts. The night shifts were simulated in a laboratory, while the participants slept at home.

The study found that both subjective alertness and neurobehavioral performance deteriorated during the night shifts under both light conditions. However, the deterioration was significantly less under bright light compared to standard light.

For a subset of participants, the DLMO was delayed by an average of 3:17±0:23 hours after three night shifts in bright light and by 2:06±0:15 hours in standard light. This suggests that bright light causes a larger phase delay.

In conclusion, the study found that bright light improved performance and alertness during simulated night shifts and facilitated better adaptation to night work.

The use of ceiling-mounted LED luminaires for bright light administration could potentially enhance adaptation to night work and reduce the risk of accidents and injuries among night workers. The trial registration number for this study is NCT03203538.

Conclusion

After considering the advantages and cons of installing led strip lights on the ceiling, it’s time to decide. If this is the case, you’ll want to think about whether or not they’ll fit in with the style of your house. As a result, before making a purchase, think about where and how you’ll utilize your led strip lights.

So, where should I place the LED lights? or Do You Put LED Lights On The Ceiling Or Wall? Because everyone’s circumstances and preferences are unique, the authority and freedom to make your own decisions rests with you. As a result of this post, you should be better positioned to make an educated decision.
